Plan a Weekly Menu
Planning a weekly menu and meal prepping can help save you money on your weekly food bill. Through this, you will get an idea of what you need and what quantity. Therefore, eliminating the risk of overspending.
Different companies provide a variety of meal kits and food subscription boxes. These include: Gousto, Simply Cook, Oddbox, and many more.
All the meal kits and food subscription boxes that you can purchase from these companies (apart from Simply Cook who only supply the dry ingredients pots) contain all the ingredients along with the easy-to-follow recipe cards.
There are plenty of meals to choose from. Ranging from: Family Favorites, Vegetarian, Vegan & 10-minute meals. There is something for everyone. The best thing about the meal kits is that you will get all the ingredients in the amount that is required to prepare the recipes, eliminating the need to measure. All this not only saves you time, additional shopping bills and food wastage. Have a look at each of these companies in detail.
Below you will find more details about the 3 most popular meal kit companies (as seen on TV) and ones that I have personally tried and tested.

Also, you can cancel or pause your membership at any time.
I have fortnightly deliveries and order for 2. That way when I make a meal I have enough for dinner and lunch or 2 days dinners. Each delivery comes with beautiful recipe cards, which Gousto supply you with a free ring binder to store them in. I laminate all mine that way they do not get dirty whilst cooking.

Simply cook is a company that deliver uniquely blended ingredients that You won’t find in the supermarkets!) and recipe cards straight to your door. You get 4 recipe kits for 2 – 4 people. (Note: Fresh ingredients are not included, just the recipe, seasoning, oil etc.)
Their boxes are designed to fit through most standard letterboxes so you do not have to be home to take receipt of your order.
You are in control, you can order how often you like, starting at every week and up to every 6 weeks. As they only supply the dry ingredients, I only subscribe on a 6-weekly basis, when I fancy something original.
As the ingredients are uniquely blended it does mean if you ever want to make the meal again, you would have to buy the ingredient pot again (the only bad point).
You can change, pause or cancel your subscription at any time online. You either log into your account and cancel or email Simply Cook. No commitment and hassle-free.
To claim your FREE BOX today sign up to Simply Cook below.
Oddbox supply fruit and veg that doesn’t meet strict cosmetic and quality requirements and would otherwise be thrown away.
They provide free weekly or fortnightly deliveries and give you the choice between; Fruit & Veg Box, Veg Box or Fruit Booster box, which come in sizes ranging from X-small (1-2 people) to Large (4 – 5 people).
One good thing about this company is that they donates 10% of its production to charities that fight food poverty!
I bought my first box and as I did not know what to expect I went for the x-small box. I was amazed at what I got for 99p (£10 off my 1st order). I got: 3 large, beetroots, 4 satsumas, a punnet of grapes, 2 avocados, 1 ear of corn and 2 large baking potatoes! You could not get 1 of those items for 99p at a supermarket.
Why not help fight food waste with a box that’s perfect for you. Sign up to Oddbox & not only will you receive a surprise selection of fresh fruit & veg (& recipes) but you will also get £10 off your first order. Also like the others, you can cancel at any time.

4 October 2022 at 11:16 PM -Great tip! That is something I never used to do and always ended up with multiple of the same things in the cupboards, which resulted in a lot of food wastage. I now make lists and stick to them

18 October 2022 at 10:39 AM -This is a slow save – but a good one. It’s called the 1p challenge. Save one penny on day 1, 2p on day 2, 3p on the third day and so on. After 365 days you could end up with savings over £650!

28 October 2022 at 1:31 PM -Not done it this year, but I’ve done it in the past but in reverse. It just means that by the time you get to December it’s only pennies you’re putting in and a lot easier to finish earlier by putting in December’s altogether.

26 October 2022 at 8:05 PM -A great tip I read recently was to stick to your shopping budget but try to make it stretch an extra day and shop every 8 days instead of 7, thus saving you hundreds over the year. I go a step further and try to make it last 10 days if I can.

26 October 2022 at 9:08 PM -I always used to buy branded products but Supermarket own Rich Tea are just as good as the branded ones as are their crisps and weetabix are often twice the price of supermarket own brands – some products are a bit hit and miss but I’m having fun trying which ones are worth buying for keeps
Marcia
28 October 2022 at 1:26 PM -I’ve started using tinned potatoes to make roast potatoes. Especially if you get the supermarket own brand potatoes, they are really good value. Cheap, peeled and ready cooked, they save you money and time. Can be on the small size, but they taste amazing. Can be done in the oven or airfryer 😀

30 October 2022 at 10:39 AM -Also, use a few comparison sites to find the best deal. Some also do cashback through Quidco so worth signing up with them first
Kim Willing
30 October 2022 at 1:23 PM -Don’t go shopping when you’re hungry, you tend to buy more. Make a list and stick to it. Look at the price per 100ml or per 100g etc on shelf labels to get an idea of the cheapest product as offers are often confusing and look cheaper, but very often aren’t!
Janine Atkin
30 October 2022 at 2:27 PM -before you buy something, check if you have something in the house that will do the same job

When I get paid I put all my money into my monzo account and separate the money in different pots e.g pot for petrol, pot for food, pot for weekend spend, pot for Christmas presents etc. It helps me save and budget for the whole month.
